COP28 Side Event "Trust through transparency: A German contribution through the Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System (ITMS)"

Limiting global warming and reducing greenhouse gas emissions - these goals are the focus of the 2015 Paris Agreement. Reaching climate goals requires emission verification. In order to monitor the sources and sinks of greenhouse gases, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funds an independent monitoring system.

At this side event, experts from the German Weather Service (DWD), the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI-BGC), the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and from the research infrastructure COS ERIC will provide insights from the fields of emissions inventory, earth observation and modelling into how scientific methods add transparency at the German, European and global level.
