BMBF Transformation Initiative “Stadt-Land-Zukunft“
Under this umbrella brand, funding measures of the “Future Research and Innovation Strategy” and the “Research for Sustainability” Strategy (FONA Strategy 2020) are published, which have a specific reference to municipal, regional or functional areas and which contribute to the implementation of the “German Sustainable Development Strategy” 2021, the “German Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change” or the” Federal Climate Change Act” 2021.
BMBF Transformation Initiative "Stadt-Land-Zukunft"
The Climate Change Act sets ambitious targets that require a far-reaching transformation of infrastructure, the economy and society. This results in an urgent need for action on science-based, rapid and effective transformation and implementation processes for greater sustainability and resilience as well as climate protection and climate change adaptation. Developments in recent years show that transformation processes often take place far beyond city boundaries and frequently at regional or supra-regional level. An important milestone is therefore to leverage existing potential in municipalities and regions for more sustainable and functional ways of doing business and living through suitable spatially effective and cross-sectoral sustainability research.
