Leading-Edge Cluster Initiative: Solar Valley Central Germany
The aim of the Solar Valley Central Germany Leading-Edge Cluster initiative is to make solar power competitive. This involves following a strategy that links industry, research and education to pave the way for an energy switch and establish photovoltaics as a key energy technology.
A prerequisite for a high-performance cluster is the integration of key stakeholders in the region's innovation and value chain. To make solar power more competitive, the costs involved in producing solar modules must be cut and the modules themselves must be made more efficient. The German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are home to the largest cluster of photovoltaics companies in Europe.
In the Solar Valley Central Germany Cluster, partners from industry and research work to improve photovoltaic products and photovoltaic production technologies. Some 98 coordinated projects tackle fundamental questions along the entire value chain, from crystalline to thin-film silicone solar modules, and provide for project results to be transferred to production.
