Water4All – Water Security for the Planet

The European Partnership "Water Security for the Planet" (Water4All) is a joint initiative of 90 organizations from 33 countries and the European Commission. It is a transnational research and innovation program for the long-term and sustainable security of water supply. The Water4All partnership runs from 2022 to 2028 and aims, among other things, to make a significant contribution to the European Green Deal and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Water4All partnership is dedicated to providing safe water for all. It is funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon Europe program, supplemented by national funds from the partner countries. For German researchers, the exchange offers particular added value.

The partnership is designed to drive systemic change and foster collaboration between stakeholders and solution providers. The consortium brings together partners from the entire research, development and innovation chain in the water sector, including representatives from universities, research and innovation funding bodies, water management authorities, water associations and companies.

The main goals of the partnership are:

  • Strengthening cooperation and strategic coordination of research and innovation in the water sector
  • Supporting and promoting demonstration and market access for innovative solutions
  • Transferring water-related knowledge and providing data
  • Providing innovative tools for water management
  • Design and implementation of participatory innovation development approaches

The Water4All partnership regularly publishes calls for proposals. They follow the Water4All Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda with its 5 thematic areas:

1. Water for the circular economy
2. Water for ecosystems and biodiversity
3. Water for the future: Sustainable water management
4. Water and health
5. Water infrastructures
