WoodWisdom-Net Network “COOL”: Session “More Fodder for the Oven”
Closing Event as part of the event „International Conference Bioenergy from Forest“
Forest biomass is an important source of renewable energy in Europe. While it is predicted to play an increasing role in many countries to fulfil the EU 2020 targets on climate and energy, the growing energetic utilization of wood is expected to further intensify the competition for wood between different industries as well as between wood production and other forest functions.
In this light, the conference will explore the conflicts arising between the use of energy wood and other forest objectives. Light will be shed in particular on the comparison of forest related political strategies and management approaches of different European countries for tackling these conflicts.
The conference is organised by the European research project COOL (Competing uses Of forest Land, www.cool-project.org), a project within the two ERA-Nets WoodWisdom-Net 2 and Bioenergy, and will address policy makers, practitioners and forest owners, civil society organisations and scientists from all over Europe. Save the date. We look forward to seeing you in Freiburg, 17- 18 September 2014.
