Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) Scholarship Programme visibility event in Berlin
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) are pleased to announce the upcoming JCoI Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) scholarship Programme visibility event in Berlin, Germany, scheduled to take place from September 10-13, 2024.
This landmark event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to spotlight the collaborative efforts between Germany and Namibia in advancing green hydrogen technologies and fostering sustainable energy solutions. The Y4H2 scholarship Programme is a key initiative designed to empower young Namibians, through academic and non-academic courses in the framework of green hydrogen technology.
Key Objectives of the Event
Promoting German-Namibian Partnership: The event will highlight the successful collaboration between BMBF, SASSCAL, and the Namibian government, showcasing their commitment to the Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) initiative.
Student Engagement: A central focus will be on facilitating meaningful interactions and knowledge exchange between Y4H2 students and German institutions involved in green hydrogen mobility program.
Networking Opportunities: Participants will have the opportunity to connect with industry representatives, policy makers, and experts within the German green hydrogen sector, fostering relationships that could lead to future collaborations.
The event will attract a wide range of participants, including policymakers and relevant ministries from Germany, Y4H2 students and university representatives from Namibia, German institutions, and key stakeholders in the green hydrogen sector.
Expected Outcomes
The JCoI Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) Programme aims to achieve the following:
- Raise awareness about the Y4H2 program and its significant contribution to green hydrogen development in Southern Africa.
- Enhance the knowledge and skills of Y4H2 students, empowering them with the latest insights and technologies in green hydrogen.
- Establish and strengthen connections between Y4H2 students and German experts, paving the way for future collaborations.
- Reinforce the partnership between BMBF, SASSCAL, and German institutions in driving forward the green hydrogen mobility agenda.
Background
The Namibian Government and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) signed a Joint Communiqué of Intent (JCOI) on the 25th August 2021, to provide funds for the Namibian strategy project, pilot plant projects and its accompanying research and scholarship programme (Y4H2). To implement this cooperation, BMBF availed €40 million over five years beginning in January 2022.
The Y4H2 programme supports, promote, and advances the creation of knowledge and innovation, through academic and non-academic courses and therefore equips young Namibians with the expertise needed to lead the country's green hydrogen transition.
As part of Y4H2 scholarship program, 49 Master's students have given the opportunity to participate in the Mobility Programme to Germany. Equal numbers of students from the 2nd cohort are expected to take part in the mobility programme next year.
